Visit note: This review is based on a day visit in June 2026, arranged following a number of client stays at the property. I was hosted by the General Manager and the senior team, and had the opportunity to tour the rooms, facilities, beach and dining areas in full. Some room images are courtesy of Marriott International.

The Turkish Aegean has no shortage of beautiful places to stay, but The Bodrum EDITION sits in a different category entirely. Positioned on a private bay in Yalikavak — one of the more considered corners of the Bodrum peninsula — the property combines Ian Schrager's signature restraint with the natural drama of the Aegean coastline in a way that few resorts in Turkey manage.

My visit was a port day — the ship was in Bodrum and the opportunity to properly inspect a property that several of our clients return to year after year was not one to miss. Meeting with the General Manager and the wider team confirmed much of what guests have told us: that the service culture here is exceptional, and that the physical product more than lives up to the imagery.

The Property

The EDITION brand — a collaboration between Ian Schrager and Marriott International — is defined by a commitment to genuine design and service rather than the standardised luxury of a conventional chain hotel. Bodrum is one of its most successful expressions. The resort sits across a hillside and seafront site in Yalikavak, connected by terraced pathways, manicured gardens, golf buggies and stairs — and it is worth noting upfront that the terrain does require some walking. Buggy transfers are available but can involve a short wait at peak times, which is the one logistical friction point at an otherwise seamlessly run property.

The grounds are beautifully maintained — olive trees, bougainvillea, and immaculate hedging frame every pathway — and the overall impression is of a property that has been thought through rather than assembled. The gardens alone set a standard that few Turkish resorts come close to.

The Beach & Beach Club

The private sand beach is one of the finest in Bodrum. The bay is naturally sheltered, the water is a remarkable shade of turquoise, and the beach club — with its teak decking, white loungers and landscaped planting — manages the rare trick of feeling both luxurious and genuinely relaxed. Lunch is served on the beach; we had the Edition chicken — crispy, generously seasoned, delivered with the hotel's signature branded napkins and a hibiscus cooler alongside — and it was very good.

One honest observation: smoking on the beach was not actively enforced during my visit, and guests were lighting up at their loungers. For non-smokers — and particularly for families — this is something to be aware of, and it is the one element of the beach experience that does not match the otherwise exceptional standards of the property.

The Pier & Water Sports

The teak boardwalk pier is one of the property's most distinctive features — stretching out into the bay with lanterns along both sides, it doubles as the gateway to the water sports centre and a genuinely beautiful walkway at any hour. At the landward end sits a resident Lululemon boutique — an unusual touch that works perfectly in context, serving guests heading to the morning Pilates class or simply wanting to add to their beach wardrobe.

The Pool

The infinity pool is positioned on a raised terrace above the beach club, framed by mature olive trees and looking directly out over the bay and the overwater cabanas. It is one of the most beautifully positioned hotel pools on the peninsula — the combination of the infinity edge, the Aegean horizon and the teak loungers is hard to improve on. A second, quieter pool sits higher on the property for those seeking more seclusion.

The Edition's signature ice creams — served poolside and on the beach in distinctive branded tins — are a minor detail that guests consistently mention. In June we had the Pistachio Baklava (No. 11) and Cookie Monster (No. 8), both made in Bodrum. A considered touch that adds to the overall sense that this is a property where the details have been genuinely thought through.

Dining & Bars

The property has multiple dining and drinking venues that together cover every moment of the day. The Aegean restaurant is the signature evening experience — an open-air terrace with white-tablecloth dining overlooking the sea, serving refined modern Mediterranean cuisine with strong local Turkish influence. Sunset service here, with the islands in the distance and the yachts on the water, is one of the more memorable dining settings in Bodrum.

The Morena Deck is the beach club's daytime food and drinks terrace — a covered outdoor lounge with direct access to the sand and the boardwalk, serving light lunches, fresh juices and cocktails. In the evenings it transitions into something slightly more animated. BRAVA Bar, set within a verdant indoor-outdoor garden of climbing plants and festoon lighting, is the property's most atmospheric drinking venue — low-lit, lush and genuinely inviting once the sun goes down.

The Rooms

The rooms were designed by Yabu Pushelberg — the same studio behind several of the world's best hotel interiors — and it shows. The palette is warm and restrained: natural oak, travertine, linen and muted tones that feel both contemporary and timeless. Every room category has its own terrace or garden, and the bathrooms — with their freestanding tubs, marble double vanities and Le Labo amenities — are among the better hotel bathrooms in Turkey.

Fitness & Spa

The fitness facilities are among the best of any Aegean resort property. The gym is a full-size space fitted with Life Fitness and Cybex equipment, with a natural stone feature wall and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the gardens — significantly better than the token gym that many resort hotels offer. A dedicated glass-walled Pilates studio sits adjacent, with reformer equipment and its own instructor programme. The spa — ESPA — offers a comprehensive treatment menu in a suitably calm setting.

The Verdict

"The Bodrum EDITION is, simply, the best resort hotel in Bodrum and one of the finest in Turkey. The Yabu Pushelberg rooms, the BRAVA Bar, the infinity pool, and the private beach are each exceptional in their own right; together they create a property that is genuinely difficult to leave. The fitness facilities are among the best of any Mediterranean resort. The service culture — instilled by a management team that clearly cares — is warm, attentive and consistent throughout. Two honest notes: the terrain involves real walking and buggy waits at busy times, and smoking on the beach was not enforced during my visit, which is a jarring contrast with the otherwise immaculate standards. Neither is a reason to stay elsewhere. 9/10."

Who It's For

Couples and honeymooners will find it close to perfect — the combination of privacy, design and the beach is hard to beat anywhere on the peninsula. Discerning families are well catered for, particularly older children who will benefit from the water sports programme. Those wanting an active holiday alongside their luxury will appreciate the Pilates studio, gym and water sports in equal measure. First-time visitors to Turkey wanting to understand what the country's best hospitality looks like should start here.
